In fact, it has some really glaring flaws. It does make it feel like Hogwarts Legacy was made with the fans in mind.īut, as much as I enjoyed the game, I must admit that it’s far from perfect. The game allows us to indulge in all of these things (in the case of background, the game just doesn’t say anything, allowing us to fill in the blanks). We are strangely obsessed with our wand specifications. Most importantly, however, Hogwarts Legacy understands what’s important to the players when it comes to inserting oneself into the world. Personally, this quest informed the rest of the choices my Hufflepuff character would make later in the game (more on that later). You are more likely to hear about patience, hard work, and determination. Oddly enough, this is a Hufflepuff trait that rarely gets the spotlight. The (intended) emotional core of the quest is helping an innocent woman who has spent the majority of her life in Azkaban (the effects on her health lovingly rendered in HD). Just like the other house exclusive quests, it taps into the strengths of its respective house, but in a way that’s not immediately obvious. I love that this quest is exclusive to House Hufflepuff, arguably the least popular House choice in the Harry Potter fandom. Its art shift sets it apart from the rest of the (while admittedly pretty) standard-triple-A-CGI look that the rest of the game has. Niamh Fitzgerald’s Trial is an amazing set-piece inspired by the tale of the three brothers sequence in the Harry Potter movie. While the quality of quests varies, two in particular stand out: Fitzgerald’s Trial and Prisoner of Love. There’s a certain humor in listening to the townspeople praising Hengist of Woodcroft’s city planning abilities while navigating Hogsmeade’s labyrinthine streets. Likewise, Hogsmeade is a wonderful hodgepodge of colorful buildings and crooked streets, all full of character. I was especially blown away by the common rooms. All of this while creating a coherent castle (well, as coherent as a magical school of adventure, anyway). They have managed to marry the aesthetics of the movie with the bits and pieces of details found in the books. The team responsible for the way Hogwarts look should be proud of themselves. The environmental design is absolutely stunning. If you haven’t finished the game, you may want to stop reading now. Now I’m sure there are reviews, both by critics and by users, that have touched on a lot of what I’m about to discuss, but I still want to express them anyway.Īlso, please note that this “review” is full of spoilers. With the game now out on multiple platforms, I feel like now I can write about my entire opinion on it.
